You have probably heard the term “high blood pressure” many times but did you know that high blood pressure is one of the biggest health conditions facing Black men today leading to many other health conditions and even death?
  
In a nutshell, high blood pressure is caused when your blood presses much too hard against the walls of your blood vessels. Over a long period of time this increased pressing can cause changes in the walls of your blood vessels.

If the blood vessel walls thicken or become rough, they can cause your heart to pump too hard which can lead to other serious health conditions like heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure.

High blood pressure is known as the “Silent Killer” because it rarely produces any visible symptoms. In fact the best way to determine whether you have it or are at risk for
• Maintain a healthy weight by making smarter food choices and engaging in regular physical activity.

• Eat a diet that consists of wide variety of fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy foods.

• Reduce your intake of salt and sodium by avoiding processed foods and those with added preservatives such as canned soup, cold cuts, pizza, and chips.

• Reduce your alcohol consumption.

• Stop smoking.

• Be sure to get at least 8 hours of good quality sleep each night.

• Reduce and manage stress especially at work.

• Take all medications as prescribed by your doct
